Vita Ayala is a trans non-binary Afro-Puerto Rican comic book writer born and raised in New York City. They are one of the most in-demand writers in comics, known for their work on New Mutants, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batman Beyond, Suicide Squad, and Static: Season One. Their creator-owned titles include The Wilds and Quarter Killer. They co-wrote Nubia and the Amazons with Stephanie Williams.
In 2026, the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards celebrated its most diverse nominee class in the 38-year history of the awards, with a historic number of Black creators nominated across categories. Ayala received an Eisner nomination for Best Adaptation from Another Medium for Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, Book 1) (Abrams Fanfare), adapted with artist Sama Beck from Tamora Pierce's novel.
