Steve Ditko

Steve Ditko (November 2, 1927 – June 29, 2018) was one of the most original and influential artists in the history of American comics. A reclusive genius who rarely gave interviews, Ditko co-created Spider-Man and Doctor Strange with Stan Lee at Marvel Comics, designing the visual identities that defined both characters for generations. His psychedelic, shape-shifting artwork on Doctor Strange pioneered a surreal visual language unlike anything else in superhero comics. At DC, he created the Creeper and Hawk and Dove. His later independent work, including his philosophical hero Mr. A and his extensive work for Charlton Comics on The Question, reflected his deep engagement with Objectivist philosophy. He continued working in comics until shortly before his death, found in his apartment in New York City at age 90.
