Shobo

Shobo (Shobo Coker) is a Nigerian writer and narrative designer born in Lagos, Nigeria, currently based in Prague. He is one half of the creative duo Shobo and Shof (brothers Shobo and Shof Coker), who together have built a body of work rooted in Nigerian cultural heritage, Afrofuturism, and African storytelling traditions.

Shobo co-created and wrote New Masters (Image Comics, 2022), an Africanfuturist adventure comic illustrated by his brother Shof that earned widespread critical praise. He followed this with other creator-owned work including Outcasts of Jupiter (Kickstarter), Buckhead (BOOM! Studios), and Hot Ground (Heavy Metal Magazine). In addition to comics, Shobo has worked as a narrative designer on The Lamplighters League for Paradox Interactive and helped establish the indie game studio Endless Adventures Inc. in the Philippines.

He and Shof co-created Bronze Faces (BOOM! Studios, 2025), a heist series about three childhood friends who plot to steal back Nigeria's looted cultural heritage from the British Museum, illustrated by Alexandre Tefenkgi.

In 2026, the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards celebrated its most diverse nominee class in the 38-year history of the awards, with a historic number of Black creators nominated across categories. Shobo received a 2026 Eisner nomination for Best Limited Series for Bronze Faces (BOOM! Studios), co-written with Shof and illustrated by Alexandre Tefenkgi.
