Marie Severin (August 21, 1929 – August 29, 2018) was an artist and colorist whose contributions to American comics spanned more than four decades and touched nearly every corner of the medium. She began at EC Comics in the early 1950s as a colorist, establishing a reputation for exceptional technical skill and meticulous craft, before joining Marvel where she became one of the company's most versatile and beloved in-house artists. At Marvel she drew Sub-Mariner, Doctor Strange, The Incredible Hulk, and co-created the Living Tribunal and the original Spider-Woman. She was also known for her brilliant humor work and parody comics, including Not Brand Echh. When she began working in comics, she and Ramona Fradon were virtually the only two women in the industry. She was possessed, by all accounts, of an extraordinary wit and an artist's generosity that made her one of the most cherished figures in Marvel's history. She passed away at age 89 following a stroke.
