Lucy Knisley (born 1985) is an American cartoonist, illustrator, and author based in Illinois. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Center for Cartoon Studies (MFA, 2009), she has been making autobiographical comics and graphic novels since college. She is queer and a mother.
Knisley is best known for her memoir and travelogue comics including French Milk (Touchstone, 2008), Relish (First Second, 2013) — an Alex Award winner and New York Times bestseller about growing up in the food industry — An Age of License (Fantagraphics, 2014), Displacement (Fantagraphics, 2014), Something New: Tales from a Makeshift Bride (First Second, 2016), and Kid Gloves (First Second, 2019). She has also written middle-grade fiction graphic novels including Stepping Stones (Random House Graphic, 2020), Displacement (Fantagraphics), and Apple Crush. Her work spans confession, food, travel, family, and identity.
