Kristal Adams is a New York-based standup comedian, storyteller, television writer, comic book writer, and publisher originally from Southern California. Named one of 7 Black Female Comics to See Before They Blow Up by Madame Noire Magazine, she has built a career across multiple creative disciplines — from stand-up stages to television writers' rooms to the comics page. Her television credits include consulting producer on Netflix's The Circle, Searching for Soul Food on Hulu, and Lego Masters. Her debut comedy album Ain't I a Wombat (2022) received rave reviews and was featured on NPR, Ebony Magazine, and Paste Magazine. In 2024 she released her debut comic book series Mutiny: Black Girl Magik — a supernatural science fiction story described as Star Wars meets The Wiz, following Moriyah, a 29-year-old emotional intelligence coach who comes into possession of a talking hammer with cosmic significance. The series was created with an all-Black femme team: illustrated by Asiah Fulmore, with cover art by Alitha E. Martinez and co-editing by Amanda Meadows. Mutiny: Black Girl Magik earned 2025 Glyph Award nominations for Best Female Character and Best Comic Book. Adams is also co-owner of FairSquare Comics LLC, the independent publisher she co-founded with her husband Fabrice Sapolsky in 2019 — described as the first family, immigrant, and minority-owned comic book publisher in America, with a mission of amplifying underrepresented creators.
