Kevin Grevioux

Kevin Grevioux (pronounced GREV-yoo; born September 9, 1962, Chicago, Illinois) is a Black American actor, screenwriter, director, producer, comic book writer, and creator whose parents were both Harvard graduates. He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and various other states including Alaska, Oklahoma, Boston, and New Jersey. He graduated from Howard University with a degree in microbiology and minors in chemistry and psychology, then studied genetic engineering in graduate school before pivoting to film. He relocated to Los Angeles and took screenwriting and cinematography classes, and began writing scripts. He met director Len Wiseman on the set of Stargate (1994) — Wiseman was a prop assistant, Grevioux was an extra — and that friendship ultimately led to the Underworld franchise. Grevioux conceived the Underworld concept, wrote the original screenplay and treatment, co-produced the film, and played the lycan Raze — a role he reprised in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009). His naturally deep voice is not artificially altered. In comics, he is the co-creator of Blue Marvel (Adam Brashear) at Marvel Comics — a Black superhero created by a Black creator, which Grevioux has described with the principle: 'Don't change an established white character to Black and call it a new character. Create your own characters, your own stories, whole cloth.' He also wrote New Warriors and Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel for Marvel, and has written for Valiant and DC Comics. He founded Darkstorm Studios (Darkstorm Comics), a creator-owned publishing imprint, under which he has created ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction, I, Frankenstein (adapted as a 2014 film starring Aaron Eckhart), Darkstorm, Rise of the Djinn, Monstroids, Shurika, Skull & Guns, The Gray Men, Alius Rex, and Battlesphere. His all-ages imprint Astounding Comics includes Valkyries, Njuma, Cryptokids, Guardian Heroes, The Atoms Family, The Toy Box, Mighty Girls, The Vindicators, and The Hammer Kid. His Eisner-nominated webcomic Brothers Bond is also published through Darkstorm. His animation writing credits include episodes of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Mega Man: Fully Charged, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Young Justice. He voiced Black Beetle in Young Justice and has extensive voice acting credits. His directorial debut was King of Killers (2022), starring Frank Grillo and Alain Moussi, based on his Darkstorm graphic novel.
