Kevin Conroy

Kevin Conroy (born November 30, 1955, Westbury, New York; died November 10, 2022) was an American actor best known as the definitive voice of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995) and dozens of subsequent DC animated projects spanning thirty years. A graduate of Juilliard, Conroy's rich, distinctive voice — and his ability to differentiate Bruce Wayne's public persona from Batman's deeper growl — defined the character for an entire generation.

Conroy was openly gay and appeared in the DC Comics anthology anthology Batman: Gotham Knights #50, writing and narrating a story titled "Batman: Never Ending" that was partly autobiographical — depicting a young Bruce Wayne sheltering during the Stonewall Riots. In 2022, he contributed to the DC Pride anthology. He received a posthumous Inkpot Award in 2023. Outside of animation, Conroy appeared on stage in multiple productions including Twelve Angry Men and Rumors.
