John Jennings

John Jennings is an Eisner Award-winning artist, scholar, curator, and professor born in Mississippi. He is best known for his graphic novel adaptations of Octavia Butler's Kindred and Parable of the Sower (co-created with Damian Duffy, Abrams ComicArts), which became New York Times bestsellers. Kindred won the 2018 Eisner Award for Best Adaptation. He is co-editor of The Blacker the Ink: Constructions of Black Identity in Comics and Sequential Art, which also won an Eisner Award. Jennings is Director of the Megascope imprint at Abrams ComicArts, dedicated to speculative and nonfiction works by and about people of color. A Professor of Media and Cultural Studies at UC Riverside, he co-founded the Schomburg Center's Black Comic Book Festival in Harlem and SOL-CON: The Brown and Black Comix Expo at Ohio State University.
