Jamar Nicholas

Jamar Nicholas is an award-winning Philadelphia-based artist, author, and educator. He is best known as the creator and artist of Leon the Extraordinary (Scholastic), a graphic novel about a young Black boy navigating superhero culture, and as the illustrator of Fist Stick Knife Gun: A Personal History of Violence (Beacon Press) with Geoffrey Canada. A longtime ECBACC presence and community educator, Nicholas has dedicated his career to using comics as a tool for literacy and youth empowerment. He teaches and mentors aspiring comics creators throughout the Philadelphia region.
