Gil Kane (April 6, 1926 – January 31, 2000) was a Latvian-born American comic book artist whose career spanned virtually every major publisher and character in the industry from the 1940s through the 1990s. Born Eli Katz in Riga, Latvia, and raised in Brooklyn, Kane co-created the Silver Age Green Lantern and the Atom for DC Comics and Iron Fist and Adam Warlock for Marvel. He was also the penciler on the landmark Amazing Spider-Man #96–98 anti-drug issues — published without the Comics Code seal at the request of the U.S. government. He was inducted into both the Will Eisner Hall of Fame and the Harvey Award Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997.
