- Artist
George Pérez (June 9, 1954 – May 6, 2022) was one of the most celebrated artists in the history of superhero comics, renowned for his extraordinary ability to render massive ensemble casts with meticulous detail and dynamic energy. Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Pérez's career produced some of the most beloved runs in both the Marvel and DC universes. His work on New Teen Titans with writer Marv Wolfman in the 1980s redefined the franchise. His Crisis on Infinite Earths restructured the entire DC universe. His Wonder Woman relaunch is considered definitive. His Avengers work with Kurt Busiek and the landmark JLA/Avengers crossover demonstrated his mastery of both universes. Pérez was also known for his deep generosity toward fans and fellow creators. After announcing his Stage 3 pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2021, he spent his remaining months connecting with fans and making sure he had said thank you to everyone who mattered to him.
