Flo Steinberg (March 17, 1939 – July 23, 2017) was an American comic book industry figure whose role at Marvel Comics during its formative Silver Age years was essential to the company's identity and fan community. Born Florence Rae Steinberg in Boston, Massachusetts, she was Stan Lee's secretary and Marvel's sole non-Lee employee in the early 1960s, answering fan mail, running the Merry Marvel Marching Society, and creating the warm, personal connection between Marvel and its readers that defined the company's culture. Nicknamed 'Fabulous Flo,' she later published Big Apple Comix (1975), one of the first independent alternative comics anthologies. Marvel called her 'always the heart of Marvel and a legend in her own right.'
