Eposi Litombo Litumbe is a writer and storyteller whose work centers African history, culture, and oral tradition. She is the creator of Songs of the Sahara, a graphic novel series inspired by the historical legend of Sundiata Keita of Mali and the kingdoms of West Africa. The first volume, The Serpent in the Sand (illustrated by Alex Lanei), was published in 2024 and draws on the history of the Wagadou (Ghana) Empire and other Western African kingdoms to tell a fictional historical narrative rooted in cultural wealth, oral storytelling, and African cosmology.
Litumbe has spoken extensively about the importance of centering stories from Africa that move beyond Western media’s focus on war and famine, instead illuminating the cultural richness and complexity of African civilizations. Her work on Songs of the Sahara was developed through a Kickstarter campaign and reflects her commitment to preserving and sharing African historical narratives through the comics medium.
