DJ Chavis (Darrin Chavis II) is a professional comic book colorist based in the United States. A graduate of Winthrop University (class of 2018), Chavis brings vibrant, character-driven color work to comics that centers Black stories and communities. His color work on Temporal (Mad Cave Studios, 2025) — the critically acclaimed time-travel series written by Stephanie Williams and illustrated by Asiah Fulmore — helped establish the series as one of the most visually distinctive indie comics of the year.
Beyond comics, Chavis is known for a wide range of creative interests spanning cars, music, computers, and nerd culture, and was also in a band.
In 2026, the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards celebrated its most diverse nominee class in the 38-year history of the awards, with a historic number of Black creators nominated across categories. Chavis received a 2026 Eisner nomination for Best New Series as the colorist on Temporal (Mad Cave Studios), alongside writer Stephanie Williams and artist Asiah Fulmore.
