Dawud Anyabwile (born David Sims) is a Philadelphia-based artist and co-creator of Brotherman: Dictator of Discipline, the first syndicated independent Black comic magazine since All-Negro Comics #1 in 1947. Created in 1990 with his brother Guy A. Sims through Big City Comics, Brotherman is one of the most important works in the history of Black independent comics and remains a touchstone of the movement. Anyabwile won the 2016 Glyph Award for Best Artist for his work on the series. His dynamic, expressive linework has influenced generations of Black comic artists.
