Dave Cockrum (November 11, 1943 – November 26, 2006) was an American comic book artist best known for his co-creation of the All-New X-Men characters Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Mystique, and Black Cat, as well as for his earlier work redesigning the Legion of Super-Heroes at DC Comics. Born in Pendleton, Oregon, Cockrum served in the U.S. Navy before entering comics, working at Warren Publishing and then DC before joining Marvel. His Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) with writer Len Wein launched one of the most successful franchise revivals in comics history. He was a prolific and inventive costume designer whose character designs shaped decades of storytelling.
