Cory DeVante Williams (born November 9, 1992), known professionally as CoryxKenshin, is an American YouTuber, writer, and actor from Detroit, Michigan, who attended Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. He launched his YouTube channel in April 2009 and has accumulated 24.3 million subscribers and 9.8 billion lifetime views, building one of the most loyal fanbases in gaming content through horror gameplay, comedy, and community engagement. His fans are called 'samurai.' His channel name is derived from the anime Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X). Following a year-and-a-half hiatus from YouTube during which he secretly developed a new creative project, Williams revealed in December 2024 that his absence was to produce Monsters We Make — an original English-language manga series created and written by Williams, published through his own imprint New Edyn Press. Co-created with Corey Mikell, with art by Andrew Gong and Elyas Magee-Shamaan, the series is set in 2114 and follows Jabari Booker, a Black music prodigy who joins New Edyn Academy and discovers a deadly conspiracy involving mutant creatures and a corrupt tech company. Monsters We Make reads right-to-left in traditional manga format. Williams sold over 200,000 copies of Volume 1 directly to his fanbase within the first week of publication. IDW Publishing subsequently announced an exclusive retail distribution partnership, with Vol. 1 reaching North American comic stores October 28, 2025, and Vols. 2 and 3 to follow in 2026 with exclusive retailer variant covers. Four volumes are planned. Williams has stated he created Jabari to be a powerful Black hero who could inspire readers the way Goku inspired him growing up.
