Charles Barnett III was a veteran comic book inker, cover artist, illustrator, and educator whose career spanned more than three decades and touched virtually every corner of the industry. He debuted at Marvel Comics in 1991 and went on to ink hundreds of pages for Marvel, DC, Valiant, Warp Graphics, Tekno Comix, Big Entertainment, and Dark Horse, among others.
Mentored by Joe Sinnott, the legendary Marvel inker perhaps best known for his decades-long run on Fantastic Four; Charles carried that tradition of technical excellence and collaborative generosity throughout his career.
He was based in Kingston, New York, and was as beloved in the Hudson Valley arts community as he was in comics. He appeared at conventions to demonstrate the inker's craft, created logos for regional literacy programs, and drew promotional art for nonprofits, toy companies, and the Archdiocese of New York.
For many in the Hudson Valley who grew up loving comics, Charles was proof that the people who made those books lived right next door.
He lived a life full of love, laughter, comics, and theatre.
