Bill Everett (May 18, 1917 – February 27, 1973) was an American comic book writer and artist best known as the creator of Namor the Sub-Mariner — one of the first Marvel characters, debuting in Marvel Comics #1 in 1939 — and as co-creator of Daredevil with Stan Lee. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Everett worked in comics intermittently for over three decades, returning to Marvel in the 1960s to contribute to the Silver Age superhero revival. His work on the Sub-Mariner combined underwater mythology, anti-hero complexity, and superhero action in ways that influenced every morally ambiguous Marvel character that followed.
