Berni Wrightson (October 27, 1948 – March 18, 2017) was an American artist best known for co-creating Swamp Thing with writer Len Wein, and for his extraordinarily detailed illustration work for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Born in Dundalk, Maryland, Wrightson became one of the defining voices of horror comics in the Bronze Age, bringing a rich, EC-influenced pen-and-ink style to DC's mystery titles and Warren Publishing's magazines. His seven-year labor of love on the Frankenstein illustrations, his collaboration with Stephen King on Creepshow, and his film production design work all cemented his status as one of the most beloved artists of his generation.
