Ashley A. Woods (born October 15, 1985, Chicago, Illinois) is a Black American comic book artist, writer, and creator. She holds a degree in Film and Animation from the International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT). She began her career by self-publishing the action-fantasy webcomic Millennia War (#0–6, 2006–2009), which served as her entry into the comics industry. She traveled to Kyoto, Japan, where she presented her work in a gallery showcase called Out of Sequence at Kyoto University. Her most prominent work is Niobe: She is Life (Stranger Comics, 2015–2016) — co-created with Sebastian A. Jones and Amandla Stenberg, the first nationally distributed comic with a Black female author, artist, and lead hero. For BOOM! Studios she illustrated Ladycastle (2017), which led SyFy to call her a 'breakout artist.' Dark Horse Comics hired her to pencil Tomb Raider: Survivor's Crusade (four issues, 2017–2018). She has since provided cover work for Bitter Root and Excellence (Image/Skybound), Marvel's Shuri, interior art for Heathen (Vault Comics), and worked as a storyboard artist on Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams' Lovecraft Country (HBO). Additional credits include Wonder Woman: Black and Gold (DC Comics, 2021), Jupiter Invincible (with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Yusef Komunyakaa, Tribeca Film Festival 2021), and Black Moon Ritual (AWA Studios).
