Alex Toth (June 25, 1928 – May 27, 2006) was an American cartoonist and animator widely regarded as one of the most influential artists in comics and animation history. Born in New York City to Hungarian immigrant parents, Toth joined DC Comics at age 19 and quickly developed a minimalist, cinematically sophisticated storytelling style that influenced generations of artists. He later joined Hanna-Barbera, where he designed the visual look of Space Ghost, The Herculoids, Birdman, and Super Friends — making him as influential in animation as in comics. He died at his drawing table. He was inducted into the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1990.
