Sharmane Fury

Sharmane Fury is a co-founder and COO of Gulf Coast Cosmos Comicbook Co., a Black-owned, queer-owned comic book store in Houston, Texas. Fury was raised in Long Beach, California, identifying as a mixed Black-Japanese nerd who grew up hiding her love of comics from friends. She hosts the podcasts Militantly Mixed and BLERDcoMIXed, which explore topics surrounding intersectionality, nerd culture, and the Black and brown comics community.

Fury met her business partner Byron Canady while both were pursuing master's degrees in Entertainment Business at Full Sail University. She relocated to Houston to open the brick-and-mortar location of Gulf Coast Cosmos near Emancipation Park in Houston's Third Ward. As COO, Fury brings her background in business, media, and community advocacy to building a space that celebrates underrepresented groups and centers Black and brown representation in comics culture. Gulf Coast Cosmos is the only Black, Blasian, and queer-owned comic shop in Houston.
