Gamal Hennessy is a New York City-based entertainment attorney, author, and business consultant who has spent his career at the intersection of comic book publishing and intellectual property law. He learned to read with comics and built a professional life in service of the industry he loves. He began his legal career as general counsel of Central Park Media, the anime and manga distributor, before joining Marvel Comics as International Publishing Manager — where he negotiated international IP licenses across publishing, film, interactive media, and consumer goods in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Japan during a pivotal period of Marvel's global expansion. After Marvel, he founded Creative Contract Consulting to serve independent comic creators and publishers with business development, contracts, and licensing. His clients have included AfterShock, Amazon, GlobalComix, Mad Cave Studios, and Marvel, as well as hundreds of independent creators and small publishers. Hennessy is the author of The Business of Independent Comic Book Publishing (2020) and The Business of Freelance Comic Book Publishing (2023), both widely adopted resources in the indie comics community, and the co-founder of Comics Connection, a professional community for comic creators. He has lectured with the American Bar Association, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, and New York Law School, and he maintains an active Bluesky presence as a comics industry commentator and advocate for creator rights.
